I refurbished the rear drum brake setup today. I almost left it as is, but I’m glad I didn’t as it definitely needed stripping down.
Typically, being sat for 25 odd years, none of the hydraulics work. The clutch pedal is solid, and the brake pedal goes to the floor, and both do nothing to their respective components.
The manual swap wasn’t the only improvement on the cards for this car. Whats a sporty weekend/track car without some handing and braking upgrades?
Six months have passed, which means it’s WOF time again. The good news is that the TVR passed first time with a clean sheet, the bad news is that the inspector noted play in one of the front wheel bearings.
Whilst the other cars have been in the spotlight, getting all the love and attention, the poor little Honda has been sitting off to the side, trundling along as the super reliable daily, clocking up the miles.
With show day now only a couple of days away, the rush was on. I had a car on stands, with a diff on the ground. Not ideal.
Well, it has been an interesting time on the TVR front. Most recently, I have been dealing with one of those “why did I start this” jobs on the car.
With the KJet Cologne firing on all cylinders, the next step toward a WOF was to look into the brakes and why they shudder horribly.
In the quest to both right previous wrongs and make things on this car actually work, I had to have a look at the braking system. It worked, kinda, but needed to be better.
